Two-Letter Words FAQ

There are 107 official two-letter Scrabble words that can be played in tournament play, and every one of them is listed on this page, grouped by starting letter from aa to za.
Za is the highest-scoring official two-letter word at 10 points (Z is worth 10). Other big scorers are jo, xu, xi, qi, ka and ox — perfect plays when you are stuck with high-value tiles.
Qi (10 pts) is the only official two-letter word starting with Q. For Z there is za, for X there is xu and xi, and for J there is jo and ja. Memorising these is the fastest way to dump difficult tiles.
Two-letter words let you build parallel plays alongside existing words, connect new words to the board, and squeeze points from a crowded board. Knowing all 107 by heart is what separates casual players from tournament players.
Almost all of them are. Words with Friends uses a very similar two-letter list, with only a handful of differences, so the chart on this page works as a quick reference for both games.
Crosswords accept most official two-letter Scrabble words, especially the common ones like an, at, in, on and up. Wordle only ever uses five-letter answers, but the 5 letter word finder on our solver can help there.Try the 5 letter word finder
